Today I am heading to Wanaka with a detour to see Mount Cook.
The road takes you past Lake Tekapo at then onto Lake Pukaki. At Lake Pukaki I turned left to ride along the side of the lake on Route 80. The round trip of 70 miles is well worth the effort. Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand, covered in snow and ice it looked spectacular in the bright sunshine.
Wanaka is a busy tourist town at the bottom of Lake Wanaka. Accommodation is expensive and hard to come by, I am glad I booked in advance.
A good days ride in warm sunshine.
