The heat of yesterday and the exertion of riding the bike on some challenging tracks left its mark on me. I drank a lot of water during the ride, a lot more when I stopped last night and I was still dehydrated.
After a walk around the fortified walls of Ciudad Rodrigo I checked out of the hotel and decided to have a steady day using tarmac roads. I wanted to ride towards the Portuguese city Covilhã, from here I could head into the Serra da Estrela National Park and across Torre, the highest peak in Portugal.
I settled for a campsite a few miles from Covilhã, it was a little dilapidated although adequate for a one night stay.
