Saturday 3 December 2022, 80 kilometres
The morning light on the mountains was spectacular. As I road down the hill from the Old Inn Hotel the low cloud and mist obscured the view, at least until the sun has burnt the mist off
Tonight’s destination is Pokhara, a journey of 80 kilometres to The Fish Tail Lodge. The ride to Pokhara was a fascinating as yesterdays, a combination of paved and unpaved surfaces along with the inevitable roadworks that sets a trap for any motorcyclist that looses concentration.
You get to Fish Tail Lodge by a boat that is pulled back and forth by hand with a rope. The bike was parked at the side of the lake and I was ferried across to be greeted with a welcome drink from the very friendly staff. They presented me with a piece of cloth and a red mark on my forehead to welcome my visit.
Fish Tail Lodge is named after Machhapuchhare the mountain that dominates the skyline and is nickname Fish Tail. I am told that he mountain has never been officially climbed, because of its religious significance the Nepal Government won’t issue a climbing permit.
The views of he mountains form the Hotel were breathtaking. Trekking in the hills and mountains around Pokhara attracts a lot of Europeans that I see walking around the town as I walk to dinner.
