Today was a mixture of sun and on occasion’s low cloud, as a result, the temperature varied a lot, one minute I needed to shed a layer, the next moment I needed to add one. Altitude had an effect, particularly when I rose to 1200 metres.

I love riding my bike in France, you can travel for miles and come to believe you are the only person in the country. Today I did my usual, set the sat nav for a town in the direction I want to head, Millau, then set the preferences to avoid toll roads. The result is usually an absolute joy, today was no exception, twisty mountain passes, smooth tarmac and sweeping bends, which switch from left to right in quick succession and to top in all no other traffic for miles..
From Millau I planned to head up the Tarn Gorge, before doing so I headed in the opposite direction to stand under the famous and very impressive bridge designed by a UK Architect Foster and Partners. This is a very impressive structure and worth a visit. The Tarn Gorge is fun to ride and at this time of year the tourist traffic has disappeared
