Yesterday I headed to Igoumenitsa to catch the overnight ferry from Greece to Italy. Checkout time at Hotel Kastoria was 12 noon, I delayed my departure until the very last minute. Sitting around at the Port of Igoumenitsa waiting for the 8.15pm ferry to Ancona in temperatures that would be in the high thirties was not going to be fun.
On a section of motorway to Igoumenitsa the overhead signs gave me a new experience, they told me “Slow down bears in the areas” imagine that on the M1.
A number of other motorcyclists arrived at the port to board the ferry so we stood around swapping the usual travel and border stories. Ian, a Canadian Surgeon on a KTM had been with a group of 4 friends heading to Mongolia. Only 2 of them looked like they were going to complete the trip the other 3 including Ian had turned around because of Visa or mechanical problems.
The ferry arrived on time, which surprised me. I will wake up tomorrow to offload the bike in Italy.
