Pai back to Pai 84 miles (14th February 2014)
Today we are doing a round trip out of Pia towards Myanmar (formerly Burma) and the site of a crashed helicopter, a few kilometres from the border. The helicopter crashed 6 years ago and was apparently guarded by the army for a while, I presume at some stage they had stripped spares from it and then gave up on the rest. Getting it off the top of the mountain with no road network would be a challenge
I had better stick to bikes they crash better!
I did this ride last year and can say this is without doubt the most challenging dirt road I have ever ridden. This is particularly true of the down hill section which in places takes you down tracks that are 300 or 400mm wide with shear drops and gullies on both sides. Add to this gradients of at least 45 degrees and you have a potent and exhilarating ride ahead of you.
Picture don’t begin to tell the story, gullies, sheer drops, very steep downhill sections, fallen trees, it just goes on
Unscathed we all arrive back at Pia ready for live music and a party atmosphere at the bar called Mojo. You could pay a lot of money in Europe and not hear such good musicians who play for tips. a great day with my new dirt bike friends.
