After a relaxing breakfast in the square at Castellane we set off to along the Verdon Gorge towards the town of Moustiers Saints Marie.
The road is very narrow and twisty with bend after bend winding its way along the side of the gorge. Combined with camper vans that were too large for the road it was a slow ride to the lake at the top.
The road builders from a past era had carved out the rock so that the road passed under overhanging cliffs that defied gravity. If one of these fell it would hurt a lot more than the apple that fell on Sir Issac Newton.
The view of the lake at the top was stunning.
Our accommodation for the evening was a hotel at the top of the mountain called Des Trois Vallees.
