Uruguay

Sunday 9 December 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina to Montevideo, Uruguay – 270 miles

Today we travel to Uruguay. We will take a ferry across the river Plate from Buenos Aires to Colonia in Uruguay.

Some months ago Alastair had been invited to lunch and asked myself and Rob to join him. A friend of one of Alastair’s son was marrying a girl for Brazil. We were going to lunch on the day following the wedding.

The lunch was at Punta del Este, a town on the coast 80 miles East of Montevideo. After lunch we would return to a hotel in Montevideo.

This turned into an eventful day.

During the entire trip we had never been asked for our bike insurance certificates. Guess what, we were asked for these as we left Argentine and as we as we entered Uruguay. Unfortunately Rob had left his certificate in last night’s hotel. After some anxious moments he managed to blag his way into Uruguay.

As we made our way to Punta del Este we saw closed fuel stations. When we arrived at our destination we were told that we were unlikely to find any fuel. Petrol stations we empty due to a tanker driver’s strike.

It made for a slow ride back to Montevideo.

Punta del Este feels like an expensive Mediterranean resort
